Abstract
Abstract
This case discusses the strategies adopted by an organisation to effect the turnaround of the business when suddenly faced with the possibility of extinction on account of some daunting people management issues it had experienced. The company, which is one of the most reputable firms in the building and construction industry in Nigeria, had suffered the loss of customer confidence, which had a negative impact on the business. Though the survival strategies yielded some positive results, the case evaluates the effectiveness and sustainability of the strategies for the long term. Several human resource management themes are examined ranging from recruitment and selection to compensation and workplace ethics. Also under examination is the dilemma faced by owner-managers of small businesses in their attempt to achieve the multiple goals of preserving the business, maximising returns, allowing the use of individual initiative and maintaining adequate control over the business.
