Summary/
Abstract
The Nigerian President, General Olusegun Obasanjo was closely involved in promoting TransCorp, a Nigerian company whose mission was 'to serve the global markets with premier products and services from world-class production centres based in Nigeria and managed by Nigerians'. The company was widely perceived to be receiving favourable treatment from several government agencies. Eventually a scandal erupted when it was found that President Obasanjo himself had invested personally in the company and stood to profit handsomely from his investment. The case is a vehicle to discuss conflicts of interest.
