Researching the Practice of Management
A workshop to improve African research capacity
8 – 10 September 2009, Gordon Institute of Business Science, Johannesburg, South Africa
Supported by the Canadian Social Science Research Council, University of Manitoba and the Association of African Business Schools (AABS)
The workshop is organized around five themes:
1. Decent Work
2. Leadership in Africa
3. Base of the Pyramid
4. Finance
5. Globalisation and Africa
Each participant will in advance choose the theme s/he would like to work on
The workshop will be geared at scholars at any one of three levels of expertise:
· Aspiring world-class scholar - must have published at least 5 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and must submit a complete article to be considered for the workshop.
(This is for people aspiring to get into journals like AMJ, SMJ etc.)
· Established scholar - must have published at least 1 paper in a peer-reviewed journal and must submit a complete article to be considered for the workshop.
(This is for people who want to publish in a higher quality journal than before, e.g. ISI-listed)
· New scholars - have not previously published, must have a research idea and some possible data sources (min 2 pages) submitted before workshop.
(This is for people who want to start doing research.)
The programme costs are USD$450 per participant, including course fees, relevant materials, meals and accommodation.
Interested participants are asked to register online at www.aabschools.com by July 31 and email their level of expertise, the theme they would like to work in and the pre-work (completed article or outline of research idea and possible data sources)in PDF format with your name, institution and email address to info@aabschools.com by the 3 August 2009.
Please note your application is NOT complete until you have emailed your theme, expertise level and article by the 3rd August 2009
