Publish date: 2011-02-02

INSEAD African Faculty Fellowship programme

INSEAD is pleased to announce the INSEAD African Faculty Fellowship program for the academic year 2011/2012. This fellowship is open to two members of the faculty of African business schools affiliated with either the Global Business School Network or the Association of African Business Schools. The Fellowships are intended for those who are interested in developing their careers in research and teaching to their fullest potential. Fellows will spend one to two months during the academic year 2011/12 at one of INSEAD’s campuses. The choice of campus will depend on the preferences of the Fellowship winners and the suitability of INSEAD faculty mentors; the choice of months would be left to the Fellows to decide jointly with the relevant INSEAD faculty.

Terms of the Fellowship

The Fellowship will cover all necessary expenses related to the visit to INSEAD: round-trip from/to the country of origin, housing, and meal expenses.

The Fellows will be welcomed by the INSEAD Africa Initiative. INSEAD will assist the Fellows with obtaining visas and housing. The Fellows will be given office accommodations and limited secretarial support with faculty in their academic area who may serve as mentors. They will be invited to attend research seminars and workshops, and they also may be granted R&D funds for research or case writing projects jointly with INSEAD faculty. With the agreement of INSEAD faculty, they may sit in on classes. Finally, they will have access to all school facilities including the restaurant, library, and IT network. They will be identified on the school’s faculty web site as “Visiting Scholars”.

In return, beyond pursuing their own projects, the Fellows will be expected to attend research seminars and workshops, to sit in on class sessions at the invitation of faculty, to interact with faculty, administrative staff, and students, and to serve as guest speaker in class if requested.

Fellows must see this experience as an opportunity for both personal and institutional development. Upon returning home, they will be expected to share the rewards of their professional enrichment with their home institutions in keeping with INSEAD’s objective of capacity building of African business schools, and to maintain a relationship with the INSEAD Africa Initiative.

Finally, they will be asked to write a follow-up report on how their visit to INSEAD served them and the objectives of the Fellowship.

The Application Process

Applicants must be faculty active in research and teaching and with the potential for - or actual duties of – academic leadership at a business school associated with either the Global Business School Network or the Association of African Business Schools. They must be fluent in English. (Working knowledge of French is useful for those interested in taking the Fellowship in France, but it is not necessary.) Professors of all academic fields of business and economics are welcome to apply.

Candidates for the Fellowships should submit the following documents in support of their application:

  1. the completed application form (Email to ask for application form) and a current curriculum vitae.
  2. a letter from the Dean of their institution supporting the application. The letter should explain the suitability of the candidate for the award and how the institution expects to benefit from the Fellow’s visit to INSEAD. The Dean must agree to free the Fellow from all institutional duties during the period of the Fellowship.
  3. a proposal of personal objectives, activities, and expected deliverables (e.g., research working paper, case study, course syllabus, etc.) during the visit to INSEAD. Those who are shortlisted for the Fellowship may be asked for further detail regarding their work plan so as to ensure the best INSEAD faculty support for the visit.

These documents should be sent by e-mail or regular mail to INSEAD at the following address.
