BRIEF HISTORY OF UDSM

  • It started as a University College (UCD) affiliated with the University of London (with one faculty- of Law)
  • Hosted at TANU premises in Lumumba
  • Students: 12 Male and 1 Female
  • In 1963 it became a constituent college of the University of East Africa
  • UDSM became a full-fledged University through the University of Dar es Salaam Act, Cap 346, 1970
  • It was a Department of Business Administration in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS)
  • The Department of Business Administration was elevated to the Faculty of Commerce and Management (FCM)
  • The FCM was transformed into a Business School and the name UDBS was born
