AABS hosts case method workshop at Johannesburg Business School

The Association of African Business Schools together with the newly established Johannesburg Business School (JBS), recently hosted the case teaching and writing workshop (CTWW) at the Country Club Johannesburg on the 25th – 27th July 2018. JBS is the 46th member school to join the association. The case method workshop was attended by forty-four (44) faculty members of the College of Business and Economics who teach in various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at the University of Johannesburg.

Professor Lyal White, Senior Director of the Johannesburg Business School, opened the workshop and emphasized the importance of the case method in management education. Through the Centre for African Business, an initiative of the JBS, Africa focused cases will be developed. The CAB also aims to contribute towards making the University of Johannesburg’s business school recognised for excellence in management and leadership capacity building in Africa and internationally.

The facilitators during the CTWW included Professor Geoff Bick, Emeritus Professor of Marketing at the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business as well as Professor Leif Sjoblom of IMD Business School, Switzerland, and Editor of the Emerald Emerging Markets Case Studies collection. Both Professors Bick and Sjoblom volunteer to teach on the AABS case method workshops and have been committed to doing so over the past years.
