Session 5: Instilling a sustainable mindset in our future business leaders: the role of business schools

Wednesday, 14 April 2021
5.00 p.m.–6.30 p.m. (CET)

  • Mette Morsing, Global Head of PRME (Principles of Responsible Management Education), UN Global Compact, New York, USA

  • Lars Moratis, Chair in Management Education for Sustainability and Professor of Sustainable Business at Antwerp Management School, Belgium, and Breda University of Applied Sciences, the Netherlands

Educators play an important role in encouraging the development of a sustainable mindset in our future leaders. The need to consider the environmental and social impact of a project or initiative is now more important than ever, and is something which requires social awareness and a knowledge which is multidisciplinary in nature. To foster this mindset and develop the relevant knowledge requires implementing a sustainability strategy which embeds sustainability within the curriculum and requires a cross-functional internal buy-in within a higher educational institution, as well as local, national and international external stakeholder engagement with strategic partners. This session will explore some of the successful strategies which can be implemented to drive forward sustainability as a key underlying theme in business education.
